The problem we have in 2021 is that the committees that approve changes to the WH are more motivated by what the sitting President or First Lady want than keeping the original Museum Quality intended by Mrs. Kennedy and her original committee. Also a huge problem is that we do not have the same quality people of taste that were here 50 years ago. Back then you had Boudin, Jansen, Henry Dupont, Jane Wrightsman, etc. that had exquisite taste and knew you did not put a picture of a mauve and purple sunset in a room filled with 18th century furnishings, paintings and decorative arts. It simply looked ridiculous to do so... so today most committees try to please the tastes of a person who will only inhabit the house 4-8 years instead of 100 years. The Obamas were able to replace the 100 year old Teddy Roosevelt dining room chairs with reproductions and made the State Dining Room look more like a corporate board room than an 18th-19th century English Dining Room like McKim Meade and White intended. Mrs. Kennedy had the Eagle Console tables painted and gilded and they were truly extraordinary. Now that are just dark brown.... thanks to Mrs. Clinton.

Mrs. Kennedy's magnificent Boudin interiors brought the WH to a level of grandeur and taste like it has never before been or since. I would give anything if her Blue Room would be restored to it's Boudin appearance. I know that we have documentation of of the early appearance, but I believe that James Monroe would have approved. He had lived in the grand courts of France and wanted to bring the pomp and ceremony to the US. James Monroe would have been astounded this his magnificent gold furniture, vases and vermeil are still present after 200 years thanks mostly to Mrs. Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy's red room has hardly changed in 50 years and until recently her bright yellow oval room was very much the same. I am glad that some of her furniture has been pulled out of storage and placed in the room again. The biggest travesty is the removal of the Elegant 1812 Zuber wallpaper from the upstairs family dining room. I think it represented America at it's best with its fine Southern sideboard, Baltimore chairs and table. The elegant blue silk draperies were fantastic as was the Chandelier she chose. It and the Presidents Dining room below need to be restored. The Obama rugs and paintings look horrific in the Historical rooms. The third floor should be used for that type of modern taste if necessary. I like President Nixons Green Room, but the Blue Room and Presidents Dining Room and Family Dining Room need to be restored.

The china attributed to William Henry Harrison in this video was, in fact, that of Benjamin Harrison.

Nerd that I am, I wonder about one of the china pattern IDs. I'm pretty sure the plate marked "William Henry Harrison" actually belonged to his grandson, Benjamin Harrison.

Thanks for your question, George ... Taft did indeed use a Pierce-Arrow limousine, although the White Steamer was the first "official" White House automobile. To our knowledge there is no documentation that tracks how often Taft used the different cars in the White House fleet.

So, his official automobile most of the times wasn't the Pierce-Arrow limousine with 6 cylinder and 48hp?

we should learn from the wisdom of the women how had and have the title of First Lady.....we are so lucky to have the experience of having an African-American First Lady. As I read more and more about the First Ladies.....their stores are remarkable and should be know by all girls and women.....my goal is have a living history display of the First Ladies which will include gowns that the women would have worn....The gowns will be available to be worn by girls and women to role play
